Manchester Wheelers Hilly Time Trial Report

The club’s Open hilly time trial took place on Sunday 12th June. Here is the race report from organizer Tom Goldthorpe:

Despite the windy conditions, some fast times were posted in Manchester Wheelers’ Hilly Time Trial on the challenging 20.6 mile Circuit of Morridge in the Staffordshire Moors.

19 year old Jack Rootkin-Gray of British Cycling’s Team Inspired took first place with a time of 49:27, closely followed by his former Solihull CC teammate, David Fellows finishing in 49:34; both riders getting as close as anyone ever has to the course record of 47:31, set in 2017 by New Zealand’s rowing legend turned cyclist, Hamish Bond. Third overall was David Parkin of Chorley Cycling Club finishing in 52:25 and heading the road bike category, another strong performance, given the difficult conditions.

Alison Dockney of Macclesfield Wheelers was first woman with a time of 1:04:23 followed by Liz Batt of Buxton CC / Sett Valley Cycles in 1:05:54 and Gail Lowe of Congleton CC in 1:09:53.
