Everything else / Track sprint cyclists wanted for research project
« Last post by louiseb on February 10, 2018, 12:31:19 AM »
Hi,

I am a biomechanics PhD student with British Cycling and a Manchester Wheeler, and I am trying to recruit participants for my first experimental study which is to quantify the test-retest reliability of biomechanical measures of a 3s sprint on the cycling ergometer. I require track sprint cyclists and you would need to come into the lab at the velodrome twice - a week apart. I can test evenings and weekends if needed to fit around your schedule.  I am happy to share the results of your testing with you. I have attached the participant information sheet with details of the study but feel free to contact if you have any questions (07801896584, louise.burnie@eis2win.co.uk) or would like to take part.

Thanks

Louise

Club discussion / THURS 8th Feb - Social & Committee Meeting
« Last post by Dan Robinson on February 04, 2018, 05:50:26 PM »
This year we're planning to combine the monthly committee meetings with a social every other month and the first one is taking place this Thursday at the Lass O Gowrie on Charles St, near Oxford Rd station

Come along from 6:30 onwards for a beer. Meeting will start at 7. Plan is to keep things very informal. If you'd like to chat about getting the club rides going or helping out with any events this year, or anything else, that would be great, but If you're just curious and want to sit in that's good too. Hope to see some of you there!

Club discussion / Re: Membership Renewal 2018

Is there a way of renewing memebership without going through BC?  Since last year I have left BC but they still have my details and my daughters which they are confusing. About as good as the medical records they keep for riders!!!!! All very frustrating after the third failed attempt.

Club discussion / Membership Renewal 2018
« Last post by Dan Robinson on January 22, 2018, 07:13:33 PM »
For those that haven't already done so, memberships are now due for renewal.

Membership renewal is now done through the British Cycling website at the following address:

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/profile/2606/manchester-wheelers-club

Prices remain the same as last year:

Senior: £20
Junior: £10
Family: £30 (min. 1 adult, 1 child; max 2 adults, children from one family unlimited)

When renewing please do also review the volunteer section and tick which club activities you can help with this year. We struggle with volunteers for all events and activities. If the work to run events, club rides and activities was shared between ALL members, it would make for a more active and vibrant club.

Those of you wishing to start the new year with spangly new club kit can do so via Pente at the usual link http://www.pente14.com/shop/19-manchester-wheelers and those nice chaps over at Cycle Space in Disley even have some samples on display at the shop for you to try before you buy, so go pay them a visit!

Thanks and see you all in 2018!

Everything else / Cyclists based in Wigan or near Oldham
« Last post by Chelsea McC-L on January 19, 2018, 04:33:15 PM »
Hi everyone,

Is there anyone from Wigan or in North Manchester (preferably from around the Oldham area) that would be interested in talking to someone from my work (via phone) about the involvement in the engagement campaign for smoking in the Greater Manchester? The email I got around at work is below. If you do get in touch with Sophia, please mention me!

Thank you!

"we are looking for people to support the campaign that aims to encourage people to give their opinion on smoking in Greater Manchester. These are the people that make up Greater Manchester, that are passionate about what they do and where they come from. Could be someone who is a smoker and doesn’t want Manchester to restrict where you can smoke or someone who is anti-smoking and who can’t wait to live in a smoke free city. Could be you mum, dad, nan, grandpa, brother, sister, kids or friend, anyone you know through any means in fact.

Finally, these people need to come from one of the ten boroughs that make up Greater Manchester, these include:

•   Bolton
•   Bury
•   Manchester
•   Oldham
•   Rochdale
•   Salford
•   Stockport
•   Tameside
•   Trafford
•   Wigan"

If so, please contact Sophia Shaw (Sophia.Shaw@havaslynx.com)

Club discussion / Re: AGM 11th December / Claiming Prizes
« Last post by Nick Green on December 07, 2017, 03:50:07 PM »
Yes; to reiterate Dan’s point, do please get involved. The track champs, Tommy Barlow TT, 2-Day race and hill climb champs are all as they are because members came forward with ideas. And you’ll see from the Annual Report that we’re going to hold a social every other month at the Lass O’Gowrie alongside the monthly committee meeting (which will alternate between the Lass and the Velodrome; January’s will be at the Velodrome), so these are good opportunities to, well, socialise!

Cheers, Nick
